What we do

We enable young people to get involved in innovative, original and ambitious creative projects. We nurture talent and raise aspirations.

Our town has a rich cultural heritage, the hometown of Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Sheen, we are proud to make our community our backdrop and location for community drama and films.

All activities are relevant and meaningful to the lives of young people, today.

Our film education projects inspire young people’s first steps to understand, explore and create a film; developing a participant’s critical understanding, cultural awareness as well as their creative practice.

We give young people a voice on issues that are important to them, listened to & respected.

Impact Stories

As of today, I’ve finished filming ‘Same but Different’. Over the past week, pupils from Afan Art’s PTYT as well as professional actors have been at my school, acting brilliantly to convey the story and message. It has been an absolute honour to be a part of this, it has been an amazing experience that I’ll never forget.”
Callum, Year 11 pupil

“It was a real privilege for me to be able to host this special screening of ‘My Life As A Bully ‘, showcasing to my Parliamentary colleagues the amazing talent that we have here in Aberavon. “My Life As A Bully” delivers a powerful and thought-provoking anti-bullying message, and it left my parliamentary colleagues moved and inspired.”
Mr Stephen Kinnock, M.P. for Aberavon

“I’m really proud to be a founder member of Port Talbot Youth Theatre. Everyone at Afan Arts is so warm, friendly and welcoming. I’ve learned a lot and it’s definitely making me a more confident person.
Emily, Port Talbot Youth Theatre member.

“Through this project, the young people have been empowered to make their voices heard and highlight issues that are important to them. They have been given responsibility and shown trust, which has built confidence and self-belief. They have gained a greater understanding of their own personal strengths and how to put their skills into practice to work as an effective team.”
Head Teacher, Dyffryn Comprehensive
